Do you hear that? It sounds like, like… a saxophone? Yes my friend, Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival is in full swing, and we couldn’t think of a better way to mark this musical occasion than with a #tightbrief.
With so many talented student designers nipping at our heels, we decided to scope out the next generation and open this one up to the creative cats of UWE. We challenged the young and the brave to design a 12” vinyl record cover for any song that fits the jazz and blues genre. They didn’t disappoint.
A few of our shortlisted faves (to name but a few) included Chloe Tyler’s creation for Take Five, by The Dave Brubeck Quartet; Kasey Ledger’s cover for Man Made Object, by GoGo Penguin; and Jordan Pledge, who came a very close second, for his Caravan sleeve by Duke Ellington.
But there can only be one winner, and the proud owner of one of our fave studio design books (Draplin Design Co: Pretty Much Everything) is…
We loved her vinyl cover for Louis Armstrong’s, La Vie En Rose. A bold, eye-catching design which draws inspiration from the song title, wonderfully executed. Very nice.
