Bristol & Bath Good Food Awards – A tasty brand identity for South West culinary awards

Sector: Events

Scope: Brand identity, communications and roll out

Objectives:

  • Establish a strong brand that would appeal to local food producers, cafés and restaurants and passionate foodies
  • Promote the awards in Bristol, Bath and beyond
  • Increase sponsorship, votes and award attendees year-on-year

What we did:
The Bristol Good Food Awards (and its sister event, held in Bath) are a gastronomical celebration of the very best eateries and local producers in and around their respective cities. Voted for by the public and judged by the very best food experts in the South West and beyond, the annual ceremonies are a true highlight on the local foodie calendar, awarding prestigious accolades to those who have excelled in their respective categories.

To reinvigorate the branding, we first refined the logo mark; a fresh injection of colour to boost recognition, and a new arrangement that would work across various applications, both on- and offline.

We then developed the rest of the brand elements, including the primary colour palette, fonts and a bespoke set of illustrated vector icons. Roll out items included pre-event marketing materials such as web banners, voting cards, sponsorship documents and posters, as well as on-the-day collateral, including tickets, programmes and event signage.

The events have more than doubled in size with the number of voting categories up by 50%, and the number of votes increasing three-fold over the last few of years.

Thanks to the help of Workbrands, the awards have gone from receiving 15,000 votes in 2012 to well over 46,000 votes in 2015. The events have also doubled in size, due to public awareness which we attribute to the branding.
